With Summer winding down, enjoy the last couple weeks before the kiddos head back to school with an weekend staycation in Iowa. We’ve chosen five attractions worth checking out! From famous bridges to state landmarks, and movie locations, there are plenty of places to explore in Iowa. Make the most of the end of summer with a family road trip through The Hawkeye State.

Field of Dreams Movie Locations

Who knew Iowa was part of Hollywood movie history? Travel down to Dyersville with the family and relive your favorite scenes from the 1989 movie Field of Dreams. Touring the famous location only cost $20 per person. With the tour you will be able to view the iconic baseball field built just for the movie. You can also take a tour of the home of Kevin Coster’s character Ray Kinsella. With each ticket, you receive a special one-of-a-kind souvenir! National Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium

After pitching the game of your life, head on over to the Mississippi River for one of the greatest museum experiences in the U.S. People from over 70 countries travel to this museum to view its unique exhibits and wildlife. Downtown Farmers Market

If you’re looking for a more edible destination, we’ve got you covered! Round up the family and drive to Des Moines for an excursion to the farmers market. Every Saturday from May through October you can explore the #2 ranked farmers market in America by The Daily Meal and Shape Magazine. You can grab a bite from a local food cart then head up and down the 9 block market to check out the 300 local vendors.

Maquoketa Caves State Park

Wanting an adventure that is a little less city and more outdoors? This next getaway is for you! Located in Maquoketa, Iowa, this state park features caves you can explore. Take your family away to the great outdoors and explore the natural resources around you. You can even have a fun picnic among the wildflowers while you enjoy nature.
